Stark was born in 1910 in Kaeo in Northland. She was famed for her dancing - particularly during World War 2 where she earned the title 'Fever of the Fleet'. She danced at Auckland's Civic Theatre in just a g-string and head dress - her body glistening under a coat of gold paint. Stark is buried at Wakumete Cemetery beside her lover Thelma Trott.
