Adam Lambert Adam Lambert is hopeful his Grammy nomination will give him true credibility as a vocalist and knock back some of the stigma of rising to fame from a reality show. The American Idol runner-up is nominated for best male pop vocal performance for Whataya Want From Me, the second single off his 2009 debut, For Your Entertainment. The song was originally intended for Pink - it was written by her along with Max Martin and Shellback. Lambert was in Paris when he woken by his manager to the news of his nomination. He has told the Hollywood Reporter it was much more effective than his usual cup of coffee in waking him up. "I was so excited! After our call, I saw that a bunch of friends and family had texted and written emails." He says he knew Whataya Want From Me would be a key track on the album. "The vocal ad libs at the end were the most challenging as they are quite high and it had been a long day. When I heard the first mix, I felt really confident the song would have success thanks to the flawless production." Lambert says American Idol is a dream platform for any artist, but the Grammy nomination gives him some legitimacy. "I feel I earned my current success by preparing and executing a variety of strong performances every week on the show and being comfortable being different." "In addition to the writers and producers of the track, I hope that at this point, after all the hard work I've done over the past year, the nomination will give me credibility as a true vocalist in the industry," he says, "and perhaps help fade some of the stigma that comes from rising to fame on a competition show." Gay favourites Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand, Margaret Cho, and the cast of Glee are among the other nominees vying for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. The Glee cast's rendition of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' is up for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals. Lady Gaga received six nominations, including nods for both album of the year and best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster and best pop female vocal performance for her hit Bad Romance. Streisand is competing for best traditional pop vocal album for her collection Love Is the Answer. Margaret Cho is up for best comedy album for Cho Dependent. The awards will be presented on 13 February.
