Government House The New Zealand AIDS Foundation Trust Board's AGM will be held on Saturday 27 November at Government House in Auckland. The AGM will be held in conjunction with the Life Membership Awards ceremony, where past chairs of the foundation who will be honoured include lawyer Charles Chauvel, now a Labour MP, Michael Stevens, now an Auckland-based researcher, and Christchurch GP Grahame Carpenter, who shouldered one of New Zealand's highest GP case-loads of people with HIV. Southland sexual health nurse Shona Fordyce is also being made a life member, as is Dianne Shannon, who was an early trainer of volunteers for the NZAF and continues to work in the field. Also among those due to be honoured is controversial transgender prostitutes outreach worker Mama Tere Strickland, whose planned inclusion as a life member is currently the subject of a complaint to the NZAF due to her opposition to prostitution law reform and a claimed history of violence towards street workers. The NZAF says it is taking the complaint very seriously. NZ Prostitutes Collective worker in Christchurch Anna Reed was also to be made a life member of the NZAF, but has refused the honour due to her opposition to Strickland's inclusion. Last week Strickland resigned from her job at the Mangere East Family Services Centre. The NZAF Trust Board is inviting all current members to attend the meeting in person. Anyone who wishes to do so much contact the Trust Board Secretary (virginia.cattell@nzaf.org.nz / 021-40 20 80) by Friday, 5 November, as admittance will be limited strictly to those listed on the official Government House guest list.
