Your guide to Hamilton Pride

Tue 3 Aug 2010 In: Events View at Wayback View at NDHA

It won't so much be "The Tron" or "H-Town" from this Thursday, in fact Waikato's metropolis will be something more akin to Gayville. Hamilton Pride 2010 begins on the 5th of August with a launch party at the opening of Gamut, a collection of work by Waikato artists to celebrate Hamilton Pride and the diversity of the rainbow community. "Gamut is the whole scale, range, or compass of a thing and this art exhibition will help showcase the way in which gender and sexuality is dynamic, fluid, relational and open," says Hamilton Pride co-chair Lynda Johnston. The Hamilton Pride Festival is a collaboration of events run by glbt groups from across Waikato. They include a lesbian quiz night, a panel discussion, a film screening, a picnic and tramping, a craft evening and a sex toy party. Saturday night features a dance party at Shine, which will be visited by the drag queen troupe touring the country in the fundraising drive Hikoi on Heels. Auckland's Miss Ribena is hosting the night, supported by Auckland and Hamilton performers. "This is a fabulous way to show solidarity with our family from the north as well as support our whanau takataapui. This is sure to be a great night out," says Johnston. "In the spirit of celebrating diversity together, the Hamilton Pride Committee would like to invite everyone to celebrate and gain a deeper sense of community by attending." On Sunday FlatOut Pride Community Radio will host the Pride 2010 Talent Show from 11am till 5.30pm. Entries are being accepted until Friday via Hamilton Pride is receiving financial support from the New Zealand Aids Foundation's condom promotion campaign Get it On!
