Mon 28 Jun 2010 In: International News View at Wayback

The corner of Market and Castro streets A teenager is dead after a triple shooting in the centre of San Francisco's Castro district during the city's ‘Pink Saturday' Pride celebrations. Nineteen-year-old Stephen Powell died after being shot on the corner of Market and Castro streets. The two other people who were shot, a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were injured but are expected to survive. The San Francisco Gate reports the shooting was apparently sparked by a personal dispute. After the shots rang out people in the area began throwing bottles and police in riot gear were called in to ease the tension. Officers arrested a 19-year-old suspect in the shootings and recovered a handgun they believe was used. Police say it was definitely not a hate crime, saying they believe the shooter and at least one victim knew each other. This year marks the 40th anniversary of San Francisco's pride parade, which filled Market Street with hundreds of thousands of people.
