December's Flirt nights will be the last ever

Fri 4 Dec 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

After four-and-a-half years of popular Auckland women's events, Flirt organiser Sarah Lambourne says December's two Flirt nights will be the last. "It's been a fabulous four years, however the time has come for me to move onto other projects," she confirms. "I want to thank all of you and everyone who has ever supported Flirt and I've met so many wonderful women during this time. I am happy to be finishing now while the Auckland lesbian scene is as busy as ever and that's all thanks to you!" Flirt started in 2005 as an unpretentious and fun social night for lesbian and bi women. The popular event features uniformed Flirt Police who help single partygoers connect and flirt with other singles. Though Flirt is finishing, Lambourne says Auckland's lesbian scene is in good hands, with a new crew taking over Flirt's traditional space each first and third Saturday night at K' Road's upstairs Purple bar. "Starting January 16th 2010, DJ Danielle and her girlfriend Sian will be taking over from Flirt. A new name and more info will be announced very shortly," she teases. "So don't stress, there will still be a regular night available to lesbians." Lambourne also reveals she's planning a fresh project to launch in the New Year. "I'm in the process of creating an online lesbian magazine for New Zealand women. Keep an eye out for me at Big Gay Out in February as I am planning on having a stand there." The last Flirt nights will be tomorrow (Saturday 5 December) starting from 10pm, and the absolute final night will be Saturday 19 December.
