Kiwi transgender icon Carmen Rupe - who now lives in Sydney - is planning another visit home to Wellington next month for a night of glamour celebrating her 73rd birthday. Rupe is widely credited with raising the visibility of the transgender and broader LGBT community both in New Zealand and Australia as a cabaret bar owner and much-loved showgirl in the 1970's and '80's. $20 tickets for the "night full of entertainment" are now on sale, and all proceeds will be donated to Carmen herself. The event is planned for Friday 9 October at Hope Bros. on Dixon Street. For tickets and more information, email jevanmanagement@gmail.com.
