Mon 24 Aug 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Newly-single gay morning TV host Steve Grey has revealed his drag queen past in this week's Woman's Day magazine, and reckons "every gay man should do drag in their 20s. It's just an expression - it gives you such freedom." Dragging up his pretty past: Steve Gray The Good Morning presenter - who made gossip-monger David Hartnell's 'best dressed' list last year - used to turn heads as drag diva 'Rose Bush' in his home town of Hamilton in the 1980's, walking down the main street frocked up complete with high heels, blusher and lipstick. In his 20's he also had various fancy-dressed jobs as a singing telegram, a Fawlty Towers restaurant server and a theatre actor in shows such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The magazine features various photos of a younger Gray showing his feminine side. The TV host also revealed he's looking for love again after his five-year relationship ended recently. He says of coming out as gay at age 14: "For me, sexuality wasn't a journey. It was a destination I was at when I was born, so there was never a question or a query - but I have slept with women since then, which confuses people even more!"
