Energy drink founder outed as homophobe

Mon 27 Apr 2009 In: International News View at Wayback

The co-founder of Rockstar energy drinks is a homophobe who says he "wants to puke" when he sees a same-sex couple kissing, claim several US media and LGBT websites. Michael Savage spouts his anti-gay views on his controversial radio show, reports Media Matters. "Responding to a caller who said, 'I had to explain to my young son why these two men were holding hands the other day,' Michael Savage stated, 'You've got to explain to the children ... why God told people this was wrong,' reports the website. "He went on to say, 'You have to explain this to them in this time of mental rape that's going on. The children's minds are being raped by the homosexual mafia, that's my position. They're raping our children's minds.'" As recently as last week, Savage described gay blogger Perez Hilton as a "sick, fat, pervert." "He is a piece of human waste with eyes. They take a pervert like him, a homosexual, and make him the judge of Miss USA. What does that tell you," he concluded. Now the CEO of Rockstar energy drinks, Savage's son Russell Weiner is also an outspoken supporter of traditional marriage law, reports LGBT website Bilerico.com. The newly-created 'Truth About Rockstar' website urges its LGBT visitors to boycott the drink, and petition its distributors. Rockstar drinks are sold around the world, including in New Zealand.
