New Pepsi ad prompts homophobic boycott

Sat 31 Jan 2009 In: International News View at Wayback

A new gay-friendly TV ad for Pepsi has angered an anti-gay lobby group who are now encouraging a boycott of the soft drink. In the ad, on TV screens in the UK this month, a man is encouraged by his mates to drink a Pepsi before approaching a nice-looking lady in a bar. His mates are then shocked when he walks past two beautiful women to get to a handsome man. The anti-gay American Family Association has responded with a new 'Boycott PepsiCo' website, where people can sign up to support a boycott of the company's many products "until it stops supporting homosexual groups which are pushing homosexual marriage." Pepsi has recently donated US$500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, and another US$500,000 to PFLAG - which supports Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Watch Pepsi's new UK ad below.
