Out Takes Film Festival returns for 2009

Sat 31 Jan 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

After a quiet 2008, the Reel Queer team says planning for the Out Takes LGBT Film Festival's return this year is going very well - but more volunteers are needed in Auckland and Christchurch. Festival dates will be finalised once the programme is decided and advertising and sponsorship are confirmed, but cinemas have been booked in Auckland for Thursday 21 May to Sunday 31 May, Wellington for Thursday 28 May to Sunday 7 June and Christchurch for Thursday 4 June to Wednesday 10 June. The Wellington-based Reel Queer team says they're currently putting together the film programme, taking on board findings from their survey of attendees at previous festivals. Reel Queer will be at Auckland's Big Gay Out next month, and will have a stall at Wellington's Out in the Square in March. More volunteers are needed in Auckland and particularly in Christchurch to run the Out Takes Festival this year, says Reel Queer's Gavin Hamilton. "We need to find an energetic, community-minded, queer cinema enthusiast who would jump at the chance to be a key part of New Zealand's second largest film festival. If we can't find the right person, or people willing to share the job, we will not be able to bring the festival to Christchurch in 2009. Time is running out." Reel Queer members will be in Christchurch on Saturday 14 February and will be available to meet with anyone who is interested in being part of Out Takes 2009.Email info@outtakes.org.nz for more details.
