TV talkshow's gay guest suicide after abuse

Fri 9 Jan 2009 In: International News

A 21-year-old gay man from Cornwall killed himself after appearing on UK talkshow The Jeremy Kyle Show to talk about his relationship. Talkshow host: Jeremy Kyle Roger Irons was found hanging from a tree last August after running out of his sister's birthday party, reports the Daily Telegraph. "Roger was happy and easygoing but he hid his problems," his sister told an inquest into his death. "People being homophobic hurt him a lot. It really got to him and eventually it boiled over." Irons had become depressed following increasing taunts about his sexuality after appearing on the TV talkshow to talk about problems with his same-sex marriage. A spokesman for the programme told the newspaper: "His death was not linked to the show and came well after his appearance." The episode Irons appeared in was repeated a week after his death.
