Monthly lesbian pool and table-tennis meetings have proven popular in Wellington, with the co-organiser saying the events have helped from new friendships – along with several new relationships. "It's been a great success. It's a great way to meet new friends and have laughs and fun in a welcoming atmosphere," says co-organiser Pauline Northrop. "We've had five couples meet up through pool in the last few months and many others have formed friendships. "We get between 12 and 36 women coming along – all ages and types. Some are keen players, others never played before. It's very inclusive, and I make a point to welcome new women." Lesbian Ping-Pong happens on the first Friday of the month from 6:30pm at Brooklyn Community Centre, and Lesbian Pool happens from 6pm on the second Friday of each month at The Ballroom (68 Courtenay Place). Both events welcome all lesbians, says Northrop. She can be contacted via email at: paulinen@hotmail.com.
