Sydney Mardi Gras Party tickets sold out

Sat 23 Feb 2008 In: International News View at Wayback

All 18,500 tickets for Sydney's 30th anniversary Mardi Gras Party next Saturday night have sold out, say organisers. Australian singing star Olivia Newton-John has now been confirmed as one of the special guests performing at Australia's biggest LGBT party, while rumours are still circulating that both Kylie and Dannii Minogue will both appear at the event. "The gay community has always been a major supporter of mine and I am hopelessly devoted to each and every one of them. I can't wait," says Newton-John. The DJ line-up for the party includes one New Zealander - DJ Marty, best-known from Auckland's Salvation, Fluffy and HERO parties. "If you think you've seen it all before, think again," says Mardi Gras Festival coordinator Marcus Bourget. "We have an incredible line up of international and Australian DJs and fantastic out-of-this-world shows and entertainment to see you though the night. "Expect the unexpected as we take your favourite party venues and turn them inside out and upside down." The Mardi Gras Party is set for Saturday 1 March in the venue formally known as Fox Studios. The party completes a full month's programme of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sydney's Mardi Gras, including their world-famous parade heading down the city's streets earlier on that Saturday evening. New South Wales police have warned partygoers of their 'zero tolerance' approach to drugs - they will be using sniffer dogs and more than 100 officers to stop people using illegal substances. Hundreds of Kiwis will fly across the Tasman to Sydney Mardi Gras on Air New Zealand's 2nd annual Pink Flight taking off on Friday 29 February. The airline says tickets have again sold so well that a larger plane was scheduled for the second year running. There are still a handful of seats available for booking, says the Pink Flight's drag diva hostess Buckwheat.
