Concerns grow for missing Hastings man

Tue 2 Oct 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Hastings man Cameron Dormer has not been seen since he text-messaged his partner of four years Clinton Hughes on Saturday to say that a car was following him. Cameron Dormer The 25-year-old's car was found on Saturday night, burned out more than 350 kilometres away in Katikati. Police now have serious concerns for Dormer, whose disappearance is out of character. Dormer was last seen at 3pm on Saturday, just before he set off for a fish and chip shop in Karamu Rd, Hastings. Dormer sent a text message to his partner Clinton Hughes at 3.30pm telling him he was being followed by another vehicle. Two minutes later he sent Mr Hughes another message, saying: "Do you still want some cigarettes?" Dormer, who runs an Internet-based phoneline company, has not responded to calls or text messages since then. His car, a white 1996 Honda Accord saloon, registration DHP231, was found 6½ hours later. "The fact that the car is burned out is a major thing. And the fact someone was following him. I know something has happened to him, something's wrong," Mr Hughes said. "He wouldn't have burned his car. This is real bad. I just can't comprehend what has happened." Police say they are investigating Dormer's bank and mobile phone records to track his last movements.   New Zealand Police have Diversity Liasion Officiers especially trained to handle LGBT issues. If you have any information which may help Hastings Police with their inquiries as to the whereabouts of Cameron Dormer, please call Evelyn Malcolm on 06 873 0576.     Ref: Dominion Post, TVNZ (m)
