Kiwi men texted porn pics to teen

Fri 27 Jul 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Two men tried to lure a teenage boy into a threesome by sending him porn images from their mobile phones, a Canberra court was told today. New Zealand born Brendan Russell Sinclair, 39, of Sydney and Keith Shepheard, 48, of Perth, were refused bail in the ACT Magistrates Court today. Sinclair had been extradited from Sydney and Shepheard from Perth yesterday. They face charges of using a mobile phone to send pornographic images to the teenager. A police report tendered to the court said police would allege Sinclair sent 57 text messages and 37 pictures to the teenager's mobile phone. Amid the messages and pictures was pornography inspired by The Simpsons and one message which said: "you're so sexy". Sinclair was arrested as he prepared to visit the boy in Canberra where he planned to have sex with the teenager at an upmarket city hotel. Depressed, recovering from a heroin addiction and epileptic, Sinclair was declared "at risk" by magistrate John Burns and will be watched closely while in custody. A separate police report tendered to the court showed police would allege Shepheard sent scores of text messages and pictures to the same boy from 1stApril, 2007 to 23rd July, 2007. There was "a lot of content of a sexually explicit nature" included in the messages, prosecutor Joe Kellaway told the court. Shepheard was evicted from his house when he was arrested on Wednesday. His eviction was part of the reason Burns formally refused bail. But Burns was more concerned with the possibility Shepheard could interfere in what police declared was a continuing investigation. "There's an ongoing investigation with a number of possible offenders in other jurisdictions," Kellaway said. Both cases were adjourned to 10th August.     Ref: Australian Associated Press (m)
