Out Takes Film Festival returns for 2007

Tue 24 Apr 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Finishing touches are being made to the programme booklets, and the official website is only days away from being updated for the thirteenth annual Out Takes Film Festival, say organisers. This year's Festival will include over 30 new feature-length films featuring LGBT stories from around the world, plus a few collections of short films and some documentaries. The Festival will take place in Auckland's Sky City Cinema from Thursday 24th May until Sunday 3rd June, Wellington's Paramount Theatre from Thursday 31st May until Saturday 9th June, and Christchurch's Regent on Worchester from Thursday 7th until Wednesday 13th June. Among the films on offer are Another Gay Movie, about four American gay high school friends who make a pact to lose their virginity before they go to college, and a special screening of colourfully camp 1953 Western Calamity Jane, starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. Out Takes 2007 is the thirteenth festival since the first one took place at Wellington's Paramount Theatre in 1995. The festival's first expansion outside Wellington was to Christchurch in 1997, followed by Auckland in 1998. The festival went to Dunedin from 2001 to 2003. The festival is organised each year by ‘Reel Queer Inc', a non-profit incorporated society whose members are all volunteers. Auckland festival organiser David Reeves says more volunteers are needed this year to work with ushering and programme distribution.
