New dancefloor design at Family bar

Fri 9 Feb 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Regulars at Auckland's LGBT nightclub Family will get a surprise on entering the K' Road venue this weekend – owner Wayne Clark has been busy making significant changes to the layout, and more improvements are planned. The stage on the right-hand-side of the nightclub has been moved to where the DJ booth was, and an all-new 'mezzanine' room in the middle of the venue - accessed via a small staircase to the right - houses the DJ booth. Clark says the new layout gives a lot more room to the dancefloor area, and makes on-stage entertainment visible from the entire venue. "Over the next couple of weeks we'll improve the bathroom area, and install a bigger staircase at the back of Family, going down to the Supermarket club below," reveals Clark. He's also planning to open a cocktail lounge above Family later this year. Family regular attendee Benjamin Beh, 25, says the improvements will make a big difference to his nights out there. "There'll be more room to move when the club gets really busy, and more people will get to see the drag shows without crowding onto the dancefloor," he says. Clark's latest LGBT venue opened last Monday 5th February – in Australia's Gold Coast. Called Envy, the venue's opening was delayed for many months while a liquor license was sought from the local council. Clark says he's now thrilled the new venue is open, describing the venue as "large – with four separate bar areas."     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
