Big money raised at GABA Auction

Sun 3 Dec 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Today's Gay Auckland Business Association Charity Christmas Auction has raised over $22,000 for worthy causes and projects within the LGBT community. Amongst the huge number of items up for bidding was Georgina Beyer's chunky solid silver jeweled ring, which the NZAF's fundraiser Larry Jenkins bought for a bargain price of $225. A luxury weekend's accommodation at Oranga Bay Homestead in Russell went for $675, and dinner for two in the company of Rainbow MP Chris Carter went for $310. GayNZ.com's donation of a dinner plate painted by Suzanne Paul raised $30. Auckland's premier exotic male stripper Marco Martin was there with the Flirt Police girls to hold up the extraordinary range of items. The bidding on various items intensified as Marco showed more and more flesh. Performances from Cindy of Samoa began and rounded out the event in the Christmas-decorated historic Hopetoun Alpha building in Central Auckland. GABA President Johnny Givins says the GABA Charitable Trust will distribute the money raised, “to support the many smaller organisations and individuals in our community doing important and creative work.”     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
