Iconic New Zealand entertainer and drag diva Polyfilla is bringing her first ever comedy solo act to Christchurch, shortly before she leaves for Australia to pursue her showbiz career. “Pollywood! Drags to Bitches…” will be a one ‘woman' show, opening on July 28 in Christchurch's historical Harbour Light entertainment venue. “Expect the unexpected as sacred cows are satirised, Las Vegas glamour lampooned and Hollywood megalomania magnified,” says Polyfilla, who bills the show as a “mid-winter Christmas comedy with balls.” Over 20 costumes will feature, painstakingly crafted by Polyfilla's alter ego and award-winning costume designer Colin McLean, as she beats up on celebrities, actresses and the characters they played. Polyfilla has long been a the stalwart of Wellington's drag scene – “Wellington's true Queen of High Camp” according to Pound nightclub owner Mal Vaughan, and more recently she has starred at Hamilton's Fuel Festival. She has just completed costume designing for the upcoming Maori TV series, “The Mika Show” and leaves for Australia in a few months' time to pursue her self-styled “international superstar” career.
