Auckland's annual gay pride festival Hero kicks off tomorrow night with a launch party hosted by the Gay Auckland Business Association. GABA are extending an open invitation for all to come along to The Birdcage bar in Ponsonby for "a night of celebration", opportunities to meet event organisers, and see a preview of some of the performances that will forthcoming throughout the two-week festival, including the controversial gay cruising theatre piece Glory Hole. Speakers from this year's Hero Debate will also be in attendance, including MPs Chris Carter and Maryan Street, Ross "Franklin Rd Christmas Lights" Thorby and Dame Catherine Tizard. "The straight line is godless and immoral" is this year's moot. Drag Queens and Flirt Police will be on hand to ensure inappropriate behaviour is dealt with accordingly, it is promised, and images displaying the Hero Festival history and music recalling the flavour of the colourful, fun, and energetic activities from the past 16 years will be on show. There will also be giveaways and tickets to some events.
