The Exclusive Brethren sect are still pushing for the National Party to try and form a coalition government, having approached the New Zealand First Party and the National Party in support. The sect behind a half-million-dollar campaign to oust Labour and the Green Party, which included anti-gay messages criticising the left-wing social policy, are urging the right wing parties to form a coalition government. National leader Don Brash confirmed yesterday "They have urged us to keep talking." NZ First leader Winston Peters also confirmed that the sect had approached his party, which would be the critical partner to a centre-right coalition. "They've tried to approach me and the president and we've just said, 'Look, we're not going to talk to people who went out and backed another political party'," he said. The Exclusive Brethren's continued interest in the forming of the next government is believed to be a factor in Labour's moving quickly to quell speculation that a centre-right deal was possible.
