Up newspaper becomes a magazine

Wed 26 Jan 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington-based Up gay newspaper is changing its format from its next issue to become a monthly magazine. "It's what we've always aimed for," says UP's co-owner Andy Boreham. "Ever since day one when we came out as a newspaper, we knew we'd be a magazine one day. The magazine style of writing interests us a lot. We never were too keen on the news side of things, we're more interested in covering events and the scene, and doing stories on people that aren't necessarily news." UP Magazine's debut issue will hit the streets nationwide on 31 January with "all of the usual features, plus a few new additions." It will be available free from gay venues or from bookstores and one thousand free copies will also be given away at the gate of this year's Big Gay Out in Auckland.
