Select committee subs full of hate

Tue 30 Nov 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

A study of submissions sent to the select committee opposing the Civil Union Bill has revealed a frightening strain of hateful fundamentalist Christian nuttery, some of it penned by children. National leader Don Brash has said he may pull his support for the Civil Union Bill as he is troubled that the government is "basically ignoring" the concerns expressed in the submissions, some of which are reproduced below. Seven of the eleven select committee members voted in favour of the Bill, a decision welcomed by the Campaign for Civil Unions. "The Select Committee was right to dismiss the arguments of this small but extreme minority who have demonstrated such a clear lack of tolerance. They have clearly used the Select Committee process as an opportunity to vent their personal disapproval of homosexuality," says Campaign spokesman Cameron Law.
