Hundreds of supporters have signed up to help pay for a newspaper advertisement in favour of the Civil Union and Relationships Bills, hot on the heels of a NZ Herald investigation which found a majority of New Zealanders – including the average Kiwi on the street – are happy to let the bills pass. "The response from civil union supporters has been fantastic. We are nearly halfway toward achieving our ambitious target after just one week," says spokesman Michael Wallmannsberger. "In twenty years time, a new generation of New Zealanders will look back on this ad and thank our supporters for taking a principled stand for equality." The ad will feature the names of those supporters who choose to sign it and will appear in a major New Zealand newspaper before the Bills are reported back to Parliament. Supporters can sign up through the Campaign for Civil Unions website.
