Former NZer murdered in Adelaide

Mon 5 Jan 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

Police in Adelaide are seeking information that will lead to an arrest for the murder of 49-year-old Wayne Murphy, a former New Zealand resident who was found dead in his home in Magill on Saturday. Murphy has no family in Australia apart from his former wife and teenage son. It is believed that he engaged in casual relationships and was known to frequent an area called The Gums which reports refer to as a “homosexual haunt”. "We are asking for anyone else who frequents that beat to contact police," says Superintendent Mick Symons, officer in charge of Major Crime. "They can do so anonymously. We have been told Mr Murphy would go to that area and that people would go to his house from that area. We can guarantee that they would remain anonymous on that type of information coming in.” Symons says it is important that the murder is solved for Murphy's family, as well as for the people who frequent the area.
