Aus loses out on millions of dollars to NZ for weddings

Mon 15 May 2017 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Australia is missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars that could be generated from same-sex marriage. It is estimated that $550 million would be generated in the first year of a same-sex marriage Bill being passed in Australia. The report by ANZ revealed that this revenue would be generated not only by the wedding ceremony itself but honeymoons and divorce lawyers. 58% of all same-sex marriages in New Zealand are Australian couples who have flown here to make the most of our favourable marriage laws. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has allocated $170 million to a public referendum that provides no legal standing.
