Trump retains lgbti envoy role and incumbent

US President Donald Trump will retain the Barack Obama-created position of special lgbti envoy and the gay man his predecessor appointed to fill it. Randy W. Berry Two years after Obama appointed Randy Berry as the US Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons the State Department announced Berry would remain in the role. When Trump was elected he came under strong pressure from religious and socially conservative Republicans to disestablish the position. They claimed it was an attempt to ‘entrench the LGBTI agenda into the US government’. Gay rights advocates in the USA are welcoming the news cautiously with GLAAD saying they will wait to see if there is any change in the mandate for the role.
