Mike Pence US vice-president-elect Mike Pence, who once suggested that HIV prevention funding would be better diverted to 'gay cure' therapy, is now saying he made no such claim. Pence, an evangelical Christian and the running-mate of Donald Trump, avoided discussing the issue throughout the presidential campaign but his website directly calls for therapy to “change their sexual behaviour.” A spokesperson for Pence claims in a statement to the New York Times it is “patently false” that Pence “supported or advocated” conversion therapy and had simply been calling for federal funds to “be directed to groups that promoted safe sexual practices”.
