The incident happened just minutes after Trump's victory was announced. Amongst other incidents a transgender woman's car was painted with the word 'Trump' and set alight and there are emerging reports of an upswing in suicides by transgender people and increasing rates of calls to helplines. In the streets homophobic, racist and anti-Muslim graffiti and attacks are being reported, with female Muslim students having their headscarves torn off.
