Truvada gets green light in Australia

Sat 7 May 2016 In: International News View at Wayback

HIV PrEP drug Truvada has been approved for use in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.   Truvada is used as a PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) drug, by people who are currently HIV negative, to prevent them from acquiring the virus. As Truvada has been approved for use but still not funded, the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisation has said it will continue to urge the Australian government to make the medication more affordable for people. Other countries that have approved PrEP include the United States, Canada, France and South Africa. Previously, only people on strict drug trials had access to Truvada and many other Australians have been ordering it online from overseas.
