A project examining lesbian involvement in homosexual law reform and lesbian activism is seeking a queer youth facilitator. The facilitator role is a paid contract position, funded by Rainbow Wellington, that will assist Wellington artist Siân Torrington. Torrington is a queer, lesbian, hard high femme / brute who makes art, poetry and performance. Her work investigates the creative process itself, using building as a metaphor for creating personal structures of meaning. She graduated in 2010 with an MFA with distinction from Massey University, and has shown her work nationally in many contexts. The facilitator will work alongside Torrington to engage people in the project, communicate its goals and co-run a hui in April. The right person for the job will have experience in running events and community engagement as well as a strong network of people in the wider LGBTI communities. The project examines lesbian involvement in homosexual law reform as a prism for exploring queer sexuality, as well as strategies and experiences of lesbian activism in public space, both historical and contemporary. This research, comprising archival material, interviews and hui, will form the basis of visual and written work for lightboxes on Courtney Place in August 2016, as well as a publication Please contact Sian for more details at siantorrington@gmail.com
