An Auckland man whose reign of terror on his children included attacking his daughter with an umbrella over 'rumours of lesbianism' has sentenced to seven and a half years' jail. The man was sentenced in Manukau District Court today NZME reports the Muslim refugee has been given a non-parole period of half that, after admitting 16 violence charges. The court was told he wallpapered his Auckland home with images of beheadings and subjected his six children to eight years of violence. He punched and slapped them on a daily basis, and regularly used weapons against them such as a horse whip and hammer. Court documents said the man's eldest daughter was beaten with an umbrella after he became enraged when she hugged and kissed a female friend in school as a greeting, "sparking rumours of lesbianism". In another attack she suffered two black eyes, a broken tooth, a fractured nose and bruising to her back. NZME says the man showed no emotion in court, even as he heard one of his children never wanted to see him again. His wife was sentenced to a year's supervision and 150 hours community work, after pleading guilty to assaulting two of the children. The couple has name suppression to protect the identities of their children.
