Sun 23 Nov 2014 In: International News View at Wayback

Jennifer Gable There’s growing global disgust from the lgbti community at reports the body of a transgender woman was made to appear male by her family, at an open-casket funeral. Idaho woman Jennifer Gable, 32, died suddenly on the job last month from an aneurysm. “Stunned friends” have since told the Miami Herald that when they went to her funeral she was presented in an open casket, with hair cut short and wearing a suit, made to appear male. Her online obituary listed her under her birth name, with her family referring to her as male and a member of a local church. People all over the world are taking to social media to express their disgust at the lack of respect for Gable's gender identity. New Zealand had a similar case in 2012, when transgender pilot Julianne “JK” Kramer died in a crash in Cardrona Valley. Her family asked police to refer to her as male in media releases, which they subsequently did – and mainstream media followed suit, using her former male name. She was described with male pronouns throughout her funeral at a City Impact Church.
