Join the events this summer at Autumn Farm

Mon 4 Dec 2006 In: Events

Autumn Farm is nestled in the South Island's Takaka Valley - between Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks. The closest major centre is Nelson, a scenic 90-minute drive away around the bays and over the Takaka Hill. Peter Finlayson moved there in 1984, raising his then-partner's two children, and turning the place into what it is now. “It was just a blank field back then,” he explains. “We started having guests come to stay around 1990, but only in a low-key way. Summer Camp started in 1994. That's grown into a big event. Through that, we've become quite a well-known gay accommodation in New Zealand.” Autumn Farm's plentiful space, and the unique events the team plan are what keep people coming back each year, believes Finlayson. “People use our property for all sorts of events, including marriages. “We're a venue for any kind of queer group. We can provide the catering and accommodation, and you get the use of our beautiful and private grounds.” This summer's events at Autumn Farm are: 12th Annual Summer Camp 27 December - 5 January Come, relax, and enjoy our New Year's Party, Cabaret Night, King and Queen Competition, Happy Hours, and much more. Explore the Farm's wonderful grounds and gardens, the stunning beaches of Golden Bay, and the unsurpassed natural beauty of Abel Tasman National Park. There is still some inside accommodation available and plenty of camping space to occupy, so please spread the word and bring your friends! Queer Family Week 13-24 January This event is for any family with queer (gay, lesbian or transgender) members. Come along and share in a week of fun and community with other families that are a little bit different. You can go horse-trekking, sea-kayaking, rock-climbing, sailing and fishing and visit the mysterious Labyrinth Rocks. As well as the usual services, Takaka township also has a museum, a movie theatre, skateboard park and public swimming pool. Let's celebrate our gay and lesbian family members in a totally supportive and appreciative environment. Naked Week For Men 2-10 February A fun-filled week, or part-week, with gay brothers from all over the world dressed as nature intended. Come and relax in Autumn Farm's private grounds. Inside accommodation is almost completely filled already, but there are plenty of camp sites still available. Bear Week 10-18 February This event is growing in popularity each year. Autumn Farm's hosts encourage you to come with your Bear and Leather paraphernalia for a good time with the guys. Cubs are welcome too! Naturist Week 18–25 February Golden Bay is famed throughout New Zealand for its scenic beauty and its beautiful nude beaches. Autumn Farm is the perfect venue to base yourself while exploring the area. This is a new mixed event for men and women who enjoy naked community. Come and be a part of a naturist community for a week - singles, couples and groups are all welcome. Matt Akersten - 4th December 2006
