Take gets home detention for client abuse

Silipa Take Former New Zealand AIDS Foundation counsellor Silipa Take has been sentenced to ten months' home detention and 250 hours community work after admitting indecently assaulting ten clients. At the Wellington District Court this morning, Judge Peter Hobbs also sentenced Take to pay $6,500 in reparation. The charges date back to Take’s time as a counsellor at the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s Awhina Centre in Wellington. The maximum sentence he could have received was seven years in jail. The court heard Take has acknowledged his career is over. He has also lost his current job, not as a counsellor, after admitting his guilt. He remained solemn and subdued in court throughout the sentencing. Take must also undertake psychological assessment and any recommended treatment. More to follow ...
