Luxury liner Queen Elizabeth made a spectacular entry into Sydney on Saturday with a massive 'Happy Mardi Gras' cape billowing from her top decks in a salute to one of the city's biggest international festivals. Stretching 126-metres long, the cape formed part of a head-turning outfit for iconic performer and personality Vanity Faire, who was positioned on top of Queen Elizabeth on a giant glittering 2.2 metre-high stiletto. The dazzling display paid tribute to the 2014 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, with the Mardi Gras parade held the same day. Reaching almost half the length of the 296-metre liner and measuring 12.5 metres at its widest point the cape was unfurled as Queen Elizabeth entered Sydney Harbour, with Vanity taking her position on top of the stiletto, 41 metres above the harbour, as the liner approached the Opera House around 7.30am. The ship had earlier tested the cape out in Auckland, giving some lucky Kiwis a sneak preview! Watch the amazing video of what happened in Sydney below. GayNZ.com staff - 2nd March 2014
