Mr Urge New Zealand Bear 2014 Gary Edwards IT manager Gary Edwards is the new Mr Urge New Zealand Bear after wowing the crowd at a packed Urge bar in the early hours of this morning. Edwards and three other contestants had to compete in a number of categories including questions about their lives and gay and human rights issues, a performance and selling fundraising raffle tickets amongst the crowd. The contestants had to say what being a bear means to them and answer a tongue in cheek question about which All Black would they most like to find out was gay. Dan Carter and Josh Kronfeld were popular answers. In the performance category a strip act and an erotic dance routine pumped the audience up before the judges delivered their verdict. The contestants ready to hustle raffle tickets during the competition Edwards, an Aucklander, won a prize package including travel, champagne and grooming products and the opportunity to compete in the Mr Australasia Bar contest in Melbourne in June. Should he not be able to represent New Zealand second place-getter Shawn Chetty will be asked to step up. The Mr Urge New Zealand Bear contest is a highlight of the LYC Bear New Zealand Week which is part of the Auckland Pride Festival.
