The Rainbow Tick will be officially launched during the Auckland Pride Festival at an event MC’d by comedian Urzila Carlson. The Rainbow Tick is a quality improvement cycle designed to make an organisation a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for people of diverse gender identity and sexual orientation. The initiative has come to life thanks to backing from Affinity Services, a charitable community mental health company based in Auckland. One of its creators Michael Stevens says it will allow businesses and organisations are audited on five particular areas around inclusiveness and safety for the glbti community, to see how they stack up. "Once they can demonstrate to use that they have achieved in these areas we're able to award them a Rainbow Tick," Stevens says. That's a visible sign, what they call a confidence mark, that shows the organisation is a safe place for people from our communities to work in, or to use." The Rainbow Tick programme will be launched on Monday 17 February. Find out more about the initiative on its website here
