NZAF kaumatua Aunty Wai Mason dies

Aunty Wai Mason Faith Christine Takuwai Makiri Mason, aka Aunty Wai, the NZ AIDS Foundation kaumatua who has led formal ceremonies for the organisation for many years, has died in Auckland. Mason, who remained a feisty but gracious personality despite increasing frailty, is currently lying in state at Te Unga Waka Marae in Epsom. Representatives of the AIDS Foundation are understood to have joined her whanau at the marae today. Those wishing to pay their final respects are asked to gather at the gate of the marae ready for a whakaeke tomorrow at 5.30pm.
