Batwoman writers quit after marriage ban

Fri 6 Sep 2013 In: International News

Several writers of the Batwoman comic series have walked off the job after their bosses forbid a storyline in which Batwoman would marry her female partner. In February the DC Comics lesbian caped crusader popped the question to her girlfriend Maggie Sawyer. Batwoman is the highest-profile lesbian superhero in comics today and currently the only LGBT character to star in her own solo title from a mainstream comics publisher. Writers J.H. Williams and W. Haden Black have resigned after the same-sex wedding was banned. Among other concerns regarding editorial interference Williams says the writers were "prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married." He also says "we fought to get them engaged, but were told emphatically no marriage can result."
