Artist to auction work for charity at Gay Ball

Te Mete Gay, Maori artist Te Mete will hold an exhibition at the upcoming Gay Ball, where one of his pieces will be auctioned off to raise funds for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Te Mete will show pieces from his ‘Pink Light’ and ‘Same Love’ series at the event at the Chateau Tongariro on Saturday 18 May. Read Te Mete's unique life story here A live auction will be held and half of the proceeds from one selected painting will go to the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. The remaining pieces will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend, with a portion of each sale also slated for the NZAF. NZAF Executive Director Shaun Robinson is expressing gratitude to Te Mete for supporting the NZAF through his work. “HIV affects all New Zealanders, but particularly gay and bisexual men, so it’s wonderful to receive acknowledgement from community advocates such as Te Mete during events like the Gay Ball,” he says. “I’ve seen some of Te Mete’s work and he’s certainly a very talented young man. On behalf of the NZAF I wish him all the best for his exhibition at the Gay Ball.” Formerly known as the Pink Ball, the Gay Ball is returning to Chateau Tongariro for the third time. The entertainment line-up features jazz singer Lee Page, DJ James Leuii and hosts Tess Tickle, Buckwheat and Venus Mantrapp.
