Entering Wellington's long-running drag contest was a bit of fun for Arabia, who loves performing and enjoys a little escapism. Arabia - Miss Drag Wellnigton 2006 Who are you and what's your background? Arabia – originally from Hamilton. I came to Wellington about a year ago. Why did you decide to enter Miss Drag Wellington 2006? I thought it would be a bit of fun. I love performing and enjoy a little escapism. What characterises the New Zealand GLBT community for you? Our fashion, style and diversity – I think we all mesh quite well. What is the worst thing for you about being GLBT? I've never really thought about that. I think people should accept themselves without finding excuses. What is the best thing? I love meeting lots of amazing people in the gay community. Relationship status? I have a boyfriend of two years. Favourite food and drink? Salmon and Merlot – that'd make a great meal. Worst habit? I don't really want to tell you... but I do bite my nails! Most noble feature? Good skin. Favourite TV programme? Grey's Anatomy. Favourite movie? Misery, directed by Stephen King. Qualities you most appreciate in a GLBT person? Honesty, and being true to yourself. What are you reading at the moment? Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King. Who in the world including NZ would you most like to have a coffee and a chat with? Can I name more than one? Iman and Kathy Bates. Role models? Patrick Cameron – a renowned New Zealand hairstylist, Iman and Nina Simone. What is the most pressing issue currently facing the NZ GLBT population?
