Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker in Cloudburst Lesbian romp Cloudburst has been voted Best Feature Film at the 2012 Out Takes festival Audience Awards. The Thom Fitzgerald-directed film features Olympia Dukakis as a strong-willed, foul-mouthed but also tender-hearted lesbian who is dealing with the ailing health of her long-time partner, played by Brenda Fricker. The couple embarks on a haphazard road trip to get married in Canada, pick up a young male hitchhiker, and endless comedic and dramatic twists and turns ensue. Out Takes viewers loved it, as evidenced by their comments: "Absolutely, positively not just one of the best queer films I've ever seen, this is in my top 40 films of all time!" "Cloudburst was just magnificent. Wonderful performances and script, so many things to like. A real mid-Winter treat." "Wonderful film exploring with grit and humour some issues re ageing that could touch many of us. Gorgeous and sassy!" "[...] Cloudburst was outstanding. It should have been the first or the last! And that's from a gay man!!!!!" Brazilian short I Don't Want to go Back Alone [Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho] won Best Short Narrative Film, while Jan's Coming Out won Best Documentary.
