Greens' Jan Logie to deliver maiden speech

Jan Logie and Kevin Hague at Sunday's Big Gay Out Jan Logie will join the six other new Green MPs in delivering her maiden speech to Parliament this afternoon. The Kapiti Coast lesbian came into Parliament on the list and is sharing the Rainbow portfolio with colleague Kevin Hague. Logie also has the Women, Income Support, Immigration, Pacific Island Affairs, Ethnic Affairs and Human Rights portfolios. Her maiden speech with be delivered at 5PM and she’s told GayNZ.com Daily News she’s both nervous and excited about the milestone. In honour of her colleague Mojo Mathers’ introduction into Parliament, all the Green MPs’ maiden speeches will be translated live into New Zealand sign language. Mathers, who is profoundly deaf, will perform the first of seven maiden speeches at 4.15PM. You can stream Logie’s speech live here, or watch it via Freeview channel 22 or Sky channel 94.
