Wed 29 Jun 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

An arrest has been made over the assault of 40-year-old Trevor Kaukau, who was found unconscious on gay nightlife spot Karangahape Rd on Saturday morning. A 20-year-old part-time storeman from Otahuhu has been charged with assault and will appear in the Auckland District Court today. Kaukau suffered serious head injuries and remains in a drug-induced coma at Auckland Hospital. His condition is described as 'stabilising' following surgery yesterday to attempt to relieve swelling to his brain as a result of the injuries that he suffered. A number of members of the Auckland gay community who know Kaukau are expressing shock and sadness on Facebook today, as he battles to recover in hospital with his family and friends close by.
