Granted, JT may be a 'phobe, but he's currently a backbencher, and outside Cabinet. While he (and five other) Labour MPs didn't vote for the Civil Union Act, the rest of the caucus did. Labour was the first political party to have LGBT (Rainbow) branches, and Helen Clark has been strongly supportive of LGBT rights during her tenures as Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister.
