Text:K’ Rd institution Family Bar will celebrate its eighth birthday on Sunday the 25th of August, and of course, it will make a huge fuss. And you are all invited to head along and celebrate! Family staffer James Laverty writes: Well eight years and the main gay venue is still going strong after many events and fundraiser -it’s the time of the year where we hold a party to thank the people that keep Family Bar going, thanks to Wayne Clark the owner for always putting on a great night and a party like no other. It’s a bar that has always pulled the community together for many events, birthdays, fundraisers and historic events. But it’s all about Sunday the 25th of August. A night with the stars: Polly Petrie from Stonewall in Sydney will join us along with the Fab-u-lash drag queens: Buckwheat, Fonda, Dee Dee Vine, Sarah Problem, Venus, Miss Ford, Wilma Balls-drop, Miss Chocolate, Miss Beverly Hills, Miss Trinity Ice, Kola, Britlee, Tiffany Rose, Mama Chanel and the South Side Girls along with the amazing girls from Caluzzi. Over the years we have had some amazing entertainers and MCs on the stage: Mika, Steven Oates, Miss K and many more and the voice that has made Camp Karaoke Cindy of Samoa and played a big part on keeping the Camp karaoke nights going years. A very big thanks to Cindy for all her support and helping Ribena keep a fun night for so many years and bringing back the Camp Karaoke comp which is running for the next eight weeks. Along with these Drag Queens and entertainers there have been so many more that have graced the stage at Family Bar and have helped keep it the home of drag or a place to let your hair down. But no party is complete without a host and over the last eight years Miss Ribena has being the voice and life and soul of K’ Rd and will keep K’ Rd G.A.Y for many years to come. Miss Ribena will be sure to be in her best dressed for a party like no other and the venue will be decked out for all you stars that have made family the number one GAY club over the years so dress to impress: VIP drinks from 5pm-6pm Down Under. Then from 6PM-7PM upstairs Family Bar will hold one hour of complementary drinks thanks to Smirnoff and Red Bull - or join Wazza with the Sunday Club at saloon bar with giveaway meat raffles! Pease check out the website for many more events over the week like the $5 vodka night every Thursday. We also have the best DJs in the house and thank them all for the amazing tunes they have pumped out over the years and keeping the dance floor full: DJ Wanda Lamour, DJ Love and DJ James (Crunchy) and many more that have hit the decks over the years. Also a big thank you to the staff that help keep the place clean or have served a drink - you guys and girls have played a big part in keeping the party going at Family each week and we are blessed to have a great team on board - big ups to the duty managers that along with security keep the place a safe each week. Wayne Clark and the Family Bar Team would like to thank you all for been part of the Family Bar Journey and giving us eight years of Fun and keeps us your number one gay bar in Auckland. So with that we will see you all on the Sunday 25th August from 6PM Family Bar. 270 K’rd Auckland. James Laverty - 7th August 2013
